Hi, I’m Liam Scotchmer.
I am 19 (almost 20!), and I am the creator / author of Polonomic Papers.com
I created this website out of boredom whilst I was in hospital, but it has quickly turned into quite a passion of mine. I write alongside my studies (Bachelor of Economics majoring in Finance unsurprisingly!)
Don’t expect any new ideas (yet), each article is just my interpretation and perspective on things economics and finance, but in a more approachable way.
Economics is a social science
The word “economy” comes from the Greek word Oikonomos meaning “one who manages a household”. Households and economics have much in common, both face the same fundamental problem available resources cannot produce all the goods and services people desire.
Economics is the study of how society manages its scarce resources, and it isn’t just a dry collection of theories! If you have already had a read, I explore system dynamics behind markets (supply & demand!), and how policy and market forces: consumer preferences, competition and incentives, shape outcomes. It is a social science, one way of studying social relationships and human behaviour, just like psychology.
